What can you do in Shimizu with only a few hours?
With 2–3 hours, stay on foot: S-Pulse Dream Plaza, the sushi alley and the waterfront are 8–12 minutes from the gangway. The tuna market is about 25 minutes on foot or a short shuttle ride. Nothing on that plan depends on a timetable.
Is there a shore excursion that fits a 4-hour call in Shimizu?
Yes, a short one: the private Zen, matcha and calligraphy session at two old temples near the port runs about two and a half hours. Most tours with a vehicle need a call of about six hours, because the tour itself is four hours and you keep the hour before all-aboard free.
What is the best Shimizu plan for a 6-hour call?
On your own: the Nihondaira panorama (taxi up about 25 minutes and ¥3,500 per car, ropeway down to Kunozan Toshogu) or a Miho no Matsubara day by water bus. With a guide: the four-hour private tour that covers Nihondaira, Kunozan and Miho together, or the short Mt. Fuji tour that promises you back at the port 2.5 hours before departure.
How long a call do I need for a Mt. Fuji tour from Shimizu?
About eight hours or more. The Fujinomiya foothills tours — Shiraito Falls, Lake Tanuki, the head Sengen shrine — run five to seven hours, and you need the hour before all-aboard on top. Morning arrivals are best, because Fuji is clearest early.
