A small ferry crosses the harbor to Miho no Matsubara in ~15 minutes (¥800) — faster than any road route, with bay views included. It suspends in rough weather, so photograph the return timetable when you board and keep a road fallback in mind.
A free shuttle usually links the pier and JR Shimizu Station on call days. Caveat from experience: it has not always started before mid-morning — don't build an early tight plan on it.
From JR Shimizu Station the Tokaido line reaches Shizuoka City in ~11 minutes (Sunpu Castle, Toro ruins area) and Fujinomiya (via Fuji) in ~50 minutes for the Fujisan World Heritage Centre — a good clear-day play for long calls only.
Free Wi-Fi at the welcome terminal (load maps and the Fuji live camera before leaving). Cards fine at malls and restaurants; carry some cash for market stalls. 7-Eleven ATM en route to the market accepts international cards.
Be back on board at least 60 minutes before departure. Every itinerary on this site is designed around your all-aboard time, not around opening hours.
Mt. Fuji is clearly visible roughly 3–4 days out of 10, best in early morning. Check the official live camera before you commit to a view-based plan — and see our Plan B.
Arrival berths and times are published by the Shimizu Port Passenger Ship Committee. Note: if your ship docks at Okitsu Pier, walking out is not permitted — plan transport ahead.
