Why I recommend it — Takumi, Shizuoka
  • Pickup at Shimizu Port, and the van holds nine at most, so it is closer to a private day at a per-person price (from about US$136).
  • Lake Yamanaka's shore and swan boat, then Oshino Hakkai, the spring-fed ponds that are part of the Fuji World Heritage site.
  • The operator offers a full refund if the start is more than 30 minutes late — it matters on a port day.
  • Open on every Shimizu ship day we checked for the next four months (21 of 21).
Best for

Couples on a call of ten hours or more who have done, or would rather skip, the Fujinomiya side and want to stand by a Fuji lake.

Think twice if

It is a long drive to the far side of the mountain, and on a cloudy day the view is the gamble. With fewer than six booked, the operator sends a Japanese-speaking driver with a translation app instead of an English-speaking one. The boat ticket (1,100 yen) and lunch are extra. Only 8 reviews so far (4.3★). For a shorter call, the Fuji Highlights small group above covers the near side in 6–7 hours.

What the day is

A small van — never more than nine — collects you at the Shimizu cruise terminal and drives round to the north side of Mt. Fuji. The first stop is Hirano beach on Lake Yamanaka, the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes, for the classic lake-and-mountain view (about 40 minutes). Then the swan boat across the lake (about 70 minutes there; the boat runs every 20 minutes and the ticket is paid on the spot). The last stop is Oshino Hakkai, eight spring ponds fed by Fuji’s snowmelt and a thatched-roof village, where you have about an hour and forty minutes and find your own lunch. The van then brings you back to the port; the operator times the start to your ship.

Why a local would list it

From Shimizu, most Fuji days go to the Fujinomiya side, which is closer. This one goes the other way, to the lakes — the view most people picture when they think of Fuji — and it is one of very few shared, per-person options that do so from the pier. The trade-off is time: eight hours, so only the long calls work.
