A trusted local operator (book via Viator)
Mind your all-aboard. This tour is run by a local operator through Viator — they set the finish time, not us. Before you book, check its duration and return point leave you back at Hinode Pier at least 60 minutes before all-aboard (our one rule). Longer or further tours only fit early-arrival, late-departure calls — see getting back to your ship.

What you’ll do

Get active and see the parts of Shizuoka most cruise passengers never reach. On this private half-day ride, hybrid bikes (comfortable on both tarmac and country lanes) take you out to Mochimune fishing port, up the Utsunoya path — a surviving stretch of the old Tokaido highway — and through the Meiji-era tunnel beneath it, with Mt. Fuji views and rice fields along the way. Bike and helmet are included, and an English-speaking guide keeps you from getting lost.

Read this first: it does not start at the pier

Unlike the other experiences on this site, this tour meets at JR Shizuoka Station, not Shimizu Port. You need to get yourself there and back:

  • Walk or shuttle from Hinode Pier to Shimizu Station (10–30 minutes)
  • JR to Shizuoka Station (about 11 minutes)
  • Allow roughly 45 minutes each way, so budget about 5.5 hours in total, not four.

That maths is why we’ve marked it for longer calls only. If you want cycling with port pickup, it doesn’t exist here yet — tell us and we’ll keep looking.

Why it’s worth it

  • Genuinely different: a fishing harbour, an old post-road pass and a brick tunnel, at bicycle pace.
  • Private, so nobody is rushing you, and the guide adjusts to your fitness.
  • Bike and helmet included; morning or afternoon starts available.

Good to know

  • These are hybrid bikes, not e-bikes — an easy ride, but you’re pedalling.
  • Add the return train time to the tour length before you compare it with your all-aboard.
  • Booking and live pricing are on Viator.

Booking opens on Viator (a Tripadvisor company), where you'll see live prices and availability. If you book, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. We only list cruise-friendly operators with port pickup and an English guide.

The one rule

Be back on board at least 60 minutes before departure. Every itinerary on this site is designed around your all-aboard time, not around opening hours.

Will you see Fuji?

Mt. Fuji is clearly visible roughly 3–4 days out of 10, best in early morning. Check the official live camera before you commit to a view-based plan — and see our Plan B.

Ship schedule

See which cruises call at Shimizu in 2026, and when — times verified against the official port schedule. Note: if your ship docks at Okitsu Pier, walking out is not permitted — plan transport ahead.
