What you’ll do

Shizuoka is called the “model capital of the world” — Tamiya, Bandai and Hasegawa are all based here, and the hobby grew from the same craftsmanship traditions as Ieyasu’s shrines. At Shizuoka Hobby Square near the station you can assemble and paint a model, with free beginner classes and a Tamiya-supervised workshop.

Why it’s different

  • A genuinely one-of-a-kind Shizuoka story — nowhere else in the world builds models like this.
  • Indoors and weatherproof; great with kids or on a no-Fuji day.

Good to know

  • About 11 minutes by train to Shizuoka Station, then a short walk.
  • Some sessions are free and walk-in; specialty workshops vary.

⚓ The one rule

Be back on board at least 60 minutes before departure. Every itinerary on this site is designed around your all-aboard time, not around opening hours.

🗻 Will you see Fuji?

Mt. Fuji is clearly visible roughly 3–4 days out of 10, best in early morning. Check the official live camera before you commit to a view-based plan — and see our Plan B.

🚢 Ship schedule

Arrival berths and times are published by the Shimizu Port Passenger Ship Committee. Note: if your ship docks at Okitsu Pier, walking out is not permitted — plan transport ahead.
